Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Journalism at MGIMO Yuri Kobaladze was fired from the university after inviting TV presenter Ivan Urgant to a lecture, students of the educational institution told the publication MSK1.

Ivan Urgant’s lecture took place at MGIMO in mid-October 2023. As it was written RT, the university management “was shocked” by Mr. Kobaladze’s decision to invite the TV presenter to the university. A month later, the deputy dean of the Faculty of International Journalism informed students of his dismissal.

“We are all in shock. It seems to me that if students go to write a collective letter, it is unlikely to change anything,” one of the students explained to the publication.

According to students, Yuri Kobaladze often invited famous artists, politicians and TV presenters to meet with students of the faculty. “Thanks to him, we met Irina Khakamada, Leonid Yakubovich and Ivan Urgant,” said another student of the department.

On October 18, State Duma deputies asked to check Ivan Urgant for funding the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The same check will be carried out in relation to showman Maxim Galkin (included by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the register of foreign agents), artist Alexander Revva and presenter Alexander Gudkov.
