Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev presented Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin with the “Lawyer of the Year” award in the special nomination “For contribution to the protection of social and labor rights,” reports “RIA News” from the presentation ceremony in the Column Hall of the House of Unions.
The annual Lawyer of the Year award was established by decree of the President of Russia in 2009. The award is carried out by the Russian Bar Association. According to information on website organization, the prize is awarded for “contribution to the formation of the rule of law, strengthening of law and order, protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, as well as for a significant contribution to the development of Russian legal science.” Mr. Sobyanin is a candidate of legal sciences.
Prizes are awarded in the following categories: “For contribution to legal science”, “Human rights activities”, “Legal education”, “Development of legislation”, “Legal education and upbringing”. A special nomination “For contribution to the protection of social and labor rights” appeared in 2020. Last year, one of the laureates was the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin. He received an award in the Human Rights Activities category.
