Football officials are reportedly taking measures to “suppress negative sentiment” in European countries following the decision to allow the Russian youth team to participate in international tournaments.
The report says that as an argument, UEFA cites the example of Ukraine, whose authorities softened their position on participation in the same tournaments with athletes from Russia.
At the same time, earlier in Ukraine they called on the European federations to boycott matches with the Russians. The refusal to play with Russian teams was announced in Romania and Norway.
On Tuesday, the UEFA executive committee decided to allow Russian national teams under the age of 17 to participate in their tournaments. At the same time, UEFA set a number of conditions, for example, the absence of the Russian flag and anthem and the national uniform at matches. Matches should also not be held on the territory of the Russian Federation.
