Russian boxer Gassiev lost in the fight for the world title

The decision of the judges in the boxing match between Russian Murat Gassiev and Swede Otto Wallin was called a robbery. The fight took place in Antalya, Turkey. Gassiev was declared the loser by a split decision.
The fight lasted 12 rounds. Two judges gave the victory to the Russian boxer – 115:113. And only one thought that it was Gassiev who won – 117:112. Thus, the native of North Ossetia was unable to defend the title of intercontinental champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
Gassiev’s team did not rule out the possibility of protesting the result of the match. According to his representative, the boxer was stronger in at least eight rounds.
On March 1 of this year, Muram Gassiev received a second citizenship – Armenian citizenship. In the fight with Wallin, he performed under an Armenian license. However, there were no Russian or Armenian flags on his uniform – they were taped over, leaving only the North Ossetian flag.
At the pre-fight weigh-in ceremony, Wallin did not shake Gassiev’s hand. But he explained that this had nothing to do with politics. After the fight, the handshake took place.
