Media: Internet scammers are mastering a new method of deceiving the population

Attackers have begun to use a new method of deception on the Internet, according to the Izvestia article.

So, now scammers are creating fake social media accounts of representatives of regional authorities. Also, one of the tricks is “cloning” the official websites of organizations.

Now scammers prefer to “prepare” a potential victim for a conversation. Their arsenal includes collecting information about the victim, including information that has been made publicly available without authorization. Attackers also collect data about the organization’s employees.

Subsequently, a fake account of the manager or top manager is created in instant messengers or social networks. The “manager” sends messages to employees that law enforcement agencies are interested in them or that they should provide assistance to some government agency.
