The most persistent fraudster in October unsuccessfully tried to call a potential victim 1,145 times in 7 minutes, said Petr Alferov, director of fraud management at VimpelCom PJSC.

According to him, in total, more than 34 thousand attacks were carried out on subscribers in a month.

“The longest “attack” in October lasted about seven minutes. During this time, the fraudster tried to reach the client 1,145 times, but was unable to do so,” Alferov said.

In a series of attacks, scammers try to reach a potential victim using the automatic dialing function and trying fake numbers. Usually, if there is no response, they begin to look for a new “client”, but sometimes they try to break through the protection of mobile operators.

Earlier it became known that telephone scammers have come up with a new scheme – the potential victim is informed that the agreement for the use of the number has expired, and is offered to “extend” it. In this case, the attacker introduces himself as “an employee of the subscriber service department of a cellular operator.” He lays out a lot of technical details, eventually suggesting “confirm to the system that the user agreement has been renewed,” and gives a code that the potential victim must name. The scammer then sends a link to “sign the user agreement.” Clicking on this link may result in the loss of your State Services account and funds.
