Mayor of Vladivostok Shestakov announced his intention to launch a light metro in the city

The authorities of Vladivostok are studying a project to create a light metro, which is designed to solve the problems of traffic jams, it is provided for in the master plan for the development of the city, Mayor Konstantin Shestakov informs during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

“I see a lot of things that would change the feeling in the city instantly,” the mayor said, adding that everyone would be very “favorable” about the creation of a light metro. This decision would change the approach to the use of public transport in the city dramatically. The official clarified that the issue of choosing between private cars and public transport, a balance that currently leans towards private transport, would be changed. The official emphasized that it is possible to take the metro for a guaranteed period in comfortable conditions at an affordable price.

Shestakov drew attention to the fact that it is planned to launch a light metro above the ground, it will be a city electric train with short train intervals. As part of the development of the capacities of the Vladivostok Commercial Sea Port, it is planned to employ about 800 people for a short period of time, who will use the road and street network of the region. In this regard, the city needs to lay the line as far as possible, behind the railway station, as close as possible to the harbor, the mayor of Vladivostok added.
