The court found Ivan Safronov guilty of two episodes of cooperation with the Czech and German intelligence services. The defense insisted that witnesses for the prosecution confirmed during interrogations that there had been no treason, and Mr. Safronov, who did not have access to state secrets, was engaged exclusively in journalism. Ivan Safronov pleaded not guilty.
