Maxim Liksutov told how digital technologies help Moscow metro drivers

Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Transport, spoke about the technologies that make it possible to operate metro trains more accurately and safely. According to him, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin pays special attention to the safety of passenger transportation in the capital’s public transport.

“We strive to constantly improve the reliability of the metro, not only through the launch of modern trains under the control of professionally trained drivers, but also with the help of digital technologies,” says Liksutov. Among other things, more than a thousand special track sensors based on RFID tags have already been installed on the metro tracks of the capital.

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. Such a label “responds” to the radio signal, which allows you to track the object. In the system that the Moscow metro is equipped with, the train reads information from the sensor using an antenna installed on the head car. The system monitors the location of the train and helps its management, thereby reducing the influence of the “human factor”. For example, it allows you to precisely slow down the train at the stop sign of the first car, and also make the train doors open only from the side of the platform.

Sensors have already been installed on 8 metro lines: Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Filevskaya, Koltsevaya, Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Kalininskaya, Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya, Butovskaya and Nekrasovskaya.
