Man tried to smuggle $100,000 through Vnukovo

The Federal Customs Service (FCS) of the Russian Federation, in a publication on its Telegram channel, reported that customs officers at the capital’s Vnukovo airport discovered cash contraband in the amount of $100,000, which a Russian citizen tried to smuggle across the border without declaring.

The message of the department says that the violator turned out to be a 70-year-old man, who is a native of Russia and permanently residing in the United States. It is noted that he arrived in Moscow from the city of Dallas in transit through Istanbul, and at the airport he proceeded through the green corridor, saying that he had only 10 thousand dollars with him.

During the inspection, he showed the inspector a pack of hundred-dollar bills wrapped in a transparent bag, but the total amount of currency in terms of rubles was about 10 million. The man said that he did not want to waste time filling out the declaration, although no more than 10 thousand dollars can be entered into the country without declaring, and the amount that exceeds this threshold must be declared, and the control authority may require the source of funds to be indicated.

The FCS added that the issue of initiating a criminal case is currently being considered. As noted in the department, the man, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed, could face up to 4 years in prison.
