The Russian interplanetary station “Luna-25” made the first planned correction of the flight to the moon, the press service of “Roskosmos” reported in Telegram.
“Today, the automatic station carried out the first correction of the trajectory of the flight to the Moon. The propulsion system of Luna-25 turned on at 16:00 Moscow time and worked for 46 seconds,” Roscosmos said in a statement.
11th August was carried out the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the first Russian lunar station Luna-25 in almost 50 years. The area in the southern polar region of the Moon, north of the Boguslavsky crater, was chosen as the landing site for the station. Landing is expected on August 21st. The term of the “Luna-25” is designed for a year.
This is the first expedition to the lunar pole. The previous mission “Luna-24” was sent in 1976, it delivered 170 g of lunar soil to the earth. “Roskosmos” plans launch Luna 26 in 2027 and Luna 27 in 2028.
