Some Google users in Russia had difficulty accessing the company’s services, according to data portal Downradar.
By 18:00 Moscow time, most of the crash reports (520) came from users in Moscow, 190 from St. Petersburg, and another 92 from Kazan.
Problems with access to google.com are also evidenced by data portal Globalcheck. In Moscow, in particular, access to the site is not available from Beeline, Megafon and Tele2.
On August 11, Kommersant reported that Google start to block Google Workspace corporate services for Russian companies subject to Western sanctions. According to one of the publication’s sources, about 30% of all corporate information of Russian companies is stored in Google Workspace.
Google itself, in its mailing list, argued the blocking with “spam messages,” and a source close to the American company said, in turn, that any changes in access to Workspace services in Russia were “intentionally not introduced.”
