“Love remains under the rubble”: help was collected for victims of the explosion in Balashikha

The search work was completed on Thursday night. Relatives identified all the dead: two rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and five residents, including a five-year-old girl.
It was not immediately possible to identify the pensioner, a resident of apartment No. 90 on the fifth floor. 77-year-old Valentina Mikhailovna worked for many years as a design engineer at a plant in Balashikha. A woman once lived in an apartment with her husband, who died in 2011. Her son, his wife and children (daughter 3.5 years old, son 1 month old) came to visit her.
Relatives often went with the pensioner out of town to the dacha, where Valentina Mikhailovna grew flowers and looked after her favorite plants. The elderly lady lived on her pension and financial assistance from her son, and did not work anywhere. “Her energy was indefatigable, she always gave herself completely to any task,” said her son.
During her well-deserved retirement, the woman became seriously interested in folk dancing. She began going to a local club, and even joined the folk dance group “Barynya”. On the morning of September 20, the pensioner died under the rubble; her apartment was just above the epicenter of the explosion.
There is probably not a single resident among the Balashikha residents who does not know about the tragedy. And many people responded to someone else’s misfortune. On Thursday, more than 500 people came to the aid station for victims of the explosion, which operates in the Balashikha cultural center, bringing clothes, food, hygiene products and bed linen. We have already collected 3 tons of humanitarian aid.
Volunteers say they now have a severe shortage of toothbrushes, deodorants, thermal underwear and men’s T-shirts.
“One man brought 20 packaged men’s razors at once,” center volunteer Maxim never ceases to be amazed at the assortment of arriving goods. — We also accepted 6 boxes of baby food and even an old mink coat.
Meanwhile, a memorial in memory of the victims is growing near the house. Lighted candles, a sea of flowers and a mountain of children’s toys. The husband of the deceased 38-year-old Irina says that now he is not thinking about when the house and apartment will be restored. He has a place to live, but he doesn’t know how to live yet. “The wall collapsed and life collapsed. Where Ira died, my faith, hope and love remained under the rubble.”
The man has now found temporary shelter with relatives, and several other families have done the same. And those who really have nowhere to go were allocated hotel rooms.
“46 families currently live in the hotel,” the city district administration clarified. — On Thursday morning, residents of the surviving apartments were allowed to enter their homes to pick up documents and belongings. They were accompanied by police officers and rescuers.
The administration also confirmed that the families of the victims will be paid 1 million rubles, those injured in serious condition – 500 thousand rubles, those injured in a moderate condition – 300 thousand rubles, and the rest – 100 thousand rubles.
Also, for the restoration of property, families will be paid 30 thousand rubles per person, and those living alone – 50 thousand rubles.
“The state of horror still does not go away,” admitted one of the victims, 27-year-old Valeria. “I woke up from a terrible roar and thought that the bombing had begun. I wanted to jump up and urgently run somewhere for shelter, but then there was deathly silence. And so I lay there for several minutes, not understanding what was happening. Is it a dream or reality, does it happen to me or not to me.
The rubble was 100% cleared on Wednesday. And on Thursday, experts began conducting examinations. Based on their results, they will determine the safety of the load-bearing structures and the possibility of further operation of the house.
“In every examination there is a visual stage and an instrumental stage,” said engineer Denis Vasiliev. — The second involves the use of tools such as a level, laser range finder, level, and so on. If samples of material need to be removed for laboratory testing, engineers will collect samples for transport to a certified independent accredited laboratory. The first results will be obtained in a week, and then conclusions can be drawn.
