London is preparing to receive up to a million people who will come to the funeral of the Queen

British law enforcement officials are preparing for unprecedented security measures at the funeral of Elizabeth II.

The authorities of the country expect that from 750,000 to a million people will arrive in London, wishing to see the Queen on her last journey. This was reported by the British press on Sunday.

As Mayor of London Sadiq Khan noted, the British capital is unlikely to have experienced something like this before.

“The security measures are like we’re organizing a marathon, a Notting Hill carnival, royal weddings and the Olympics at the same time,” he said.

Bob Broadhurst, who was in charge of securing the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and the 2012 Olympics, said that “the funeral ceremony comes with many complexities.” He explained that “the royal family wants to be closer to their subjects, and therefore the people in charge of security face absolutely incredible tasks.”

Simon Morgan, who was previously responsible for the protection of the royal family, said that “this is the largest operation that the British police have ever carried out.”

The coffin with the body of Elizabeth II has been on display at Westminster Hall since September 14. Thousands of Britons and visitors from abroad have already paid tribute to the memory of the Queen. For this, people had to stand in multi-kilometer queues for up to a day.

On Sunday, the London authorities asked to no longer take parting lines, although the admission of people to Westminster Hall will be possible until early Monday morning.

The monarch’s funeral will take place on September 19 in London. The Queen died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on 8 September. She was 96 years old. Now the king of Great Britain is her eldest son Charles III.
