On Thursday, October 27, the head of the Lithuanian State Security Department, Darius Janishkis, confirmed that Ksenia Sobchak entered Lithuania on an Israeli passport. He also hastened to reassure the local residents, who reacted extremely negatively to the news, saying that the journalist did not pose a threat to the Republic of Lithuania.

She (Kenya Sobchak. – “MK”) is in Lithuania as an Israeli citizen holding an Israeli passport. She does not need a visa, she is allowed to enter Lithuania and, if I am not mistaken, she can stay here for no more than 90 days, Darius Janishkis said in an interview with Lithuanian media.

He also noted that Sobchak does not pose a threat to Lithuania.

– We do not yet have specific data that Sobchak could pose a threat to the security of Lithuania. If such data appeared, we would take certain actions.

Advisor to the President of Lithuania Kestutis Budrys, in turn, gave clarifications regarding Russian citizens with dual citizenship. According to him, Russians with foreign passports can come to Lithuania, but this does not mean that they will not be tested for loyalty. Recall that after the tightening of the visa regime, according to official statistics, a dozen citizens were not allowed into the Baltic States, two of whom had Israeli passports.

– I can’t confirm that a system error has occurred. But even now we have the tools to take a different look at the situation if the service sees a reason, the adviser said, adding that Sobchak was not on the blacklists of citizens who were undesirable or dangerous to Lithuania.

It is curious that Sobchak’s friend, billionaire and participant in international negotiations, Roman Abramovich, also has close ties with Lithuania. In 2018, he secretly came to Lithuania, where he met with the local Jewish diaspora. Then it was assumed that Abramovich would apply for Lithuanian citizenship, since there are immigrants from Lithuania in his family.
