The Proton-M launch vehicle with the Elektro-L meteorological satellite was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the upper stage separated and puts the satellite into a given orbit, reported on Sunday in the press service of Roskosmos.

On February 5, the first Russian launch was performed in 2023, the state corporation said. “At 12:12:51 Moscow time, the Proton-M launch vehicle with the upper stage DM-03 and the Electro-L weather satellite No. 4 took off from Baikonur,” the message says.

Roskosmos clarified that the launch vehicle worked normally, the upper stage separated from the third stage of the rocket and now puts the satellite into a given orbit.

Proton is a heavy class carrier, the rocket is used to launch vehicles for various purposes and orbital station modules, Roscosmos said earlier. Prior to launch in 2023, the rocket sent space houses of the Salyut and Almaz series, modules of the Mir and ISS stations, communications satellites, as well as scientific and defense vehicles into orbit.

The Elektro-L spacecraft, which Proton-M is currently launching into orbit, help forecast the weather and assess climate change.
