The purpose of "Electro-L" is to provide operational and independent hydrometeorological information to the divisions of the Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, as well as other departments.

The mass of the device is about 2.1 tons, according to Roskosmos. The life of the satellite is expected to be 10 years. The rocket will put it into geostationary orbit, located at a distance of 35,786 km from Earth.

Now the Electro system, which has been operating in near-Earth orbit since 2011, uses two satellites launched in 2015 and 2019: Elektro-L No. 2 and Elektro-L No. 3.
