The governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Evgeny Kuyvashev, proposed directing part of the revenue from excise taxes on tobacco and alcohol products to the creation of sports facilities. He stated this at a meeting of the Russian Presidential Council for Physical Education and Sports, which was dedicated to the development and equipping of sports infrastructure.

According to him, this will become an additional source of funding for the creation of sports facilities.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an initiative to allocate subsidies to the constituent entities of the Russian Federation for sports facilities through deductions from lotteries.

In August, he stated that one of the drivers of the Russian economy could be the realization of the highest potential of the sports industry.
