The man failed to pretend to be crazy
After more than three years, retribution caught up with a 29-year-old man who almost sent a traffic police officer to the next world in Mytishchi near Moscow. On Wednesday, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
As MK reported at the time, Mikhail Kuzmin attacked a traffic inspector for no apparent reason on December 3, 2019. During the day he walked his dog and for some reason crossed the street in the wrong place. The patrol traffic inspector called out to the intruder, but he was wearing headphones and a hood and did not hear him. Then the law enforcement officer came close to Kuzmin. The pedestrian unexpectedly took out a knife – Mikhail always carried a blade with which he cut branches to play with his dog. With all his strength, the guy stabbed the traffic inspector in the ear with a knife.
The attacker was immediately arrested. However, the matter was not as simple as it seemed at first. A year later, Kuzmin was released on bail, and at the first hearing of the case, the charge was reclassified from the article of the Criminal Code “encroachment on the life of a police officer” to the article “use of violence against a representative of authority.” As a result, the man was sent for compulsory treatment. After that, a fierce dispute began between the examinations – Moscow and St. Petersburg. The fact is that initially the doctors of the Research Institute. Serbsky issued a verdict on the sanity of Kuzmin. But their colleagues from PND No. 6 of St. Petersburg decided differently. Based on their conclusion, the court decided that the dangerous criminal was insane. The prosecutor’s office appealed the verdict, and already a second study at the Serbsky Institute proved that the accused was feigning.
Kuzmin came to the verdict with a bag – the man was clearly ready to go through the stage. However, when asked why he hit the traffic police officer, the accused habitually noted: “I’m insane.” During the announcement of the verdict, Kuzmin put on a black mask, so it was not possible to trace the emotions on his face.
