Therapist Alexandra Razarenova, who is a member of the Russian Union of Nutritionists, Nutritionists and Food Industry Specialists, shared her tips on eating before bed in an interview with Sputnik radio.
She warned that the body does not need much energy during sleep, and the metabolism slows down, so it is recommended to give up late dinners and snacks before bedtime.
The doctor also noted that eating foods high in carbohydrates, such as sweets, cereals, pasta, starchy vegetables, fast food, and alcohol, is not only not recommended, but can lead to a rapid increase in blood glucose levels. This can impair the quality of sleep, as fluctuations in glucose levels can trigger nighttime awakenings.
If you still have an urgent desire to snack before bed, a nutritionist advises choosing foods containing the “right” fats and protein components, such as bone broth, nuts, chicken or quail eggs, avocados, pumpkin or hemp seeds. You can also drink herbal tea with the addition of coconut or cocoa butter.
Alexandra Razarenova emphasized that an increase in appetite before bedtime may indicate an incorrect daily diet, so you need to analyze your diet and adjust it.
