Klishas on punishment for Smolyaninov: no need to compete with Ukraine in violation of the rights of citizens

The head of the Federation Council committee on constitutional legislation and state building, Andrey Klishas, commented on the idea of canceling the passports of citizens opposed to Russia. He urged not to “compete with Ukraine in ways of violating the rights of its own citizens.”
“A citizen of Russia with an annulled passport remains a citizen of the country and has all the rights. There is no need to play with words and compete with Ukraine in ways of violating the rights of its own citizens,” Mr. Klishas wrote in his Telegram channel.
Earlier, on January 8, State Duma Deputy Yevgeny Popov offered cancel the passports of the “conditional Smolyaninovs”. In his opinion, the statements of actor Artur Smolyaninov violate the rights and freedoms of other Russian citizens.
In an interview with journalist Kirill Martynov (recognized as a foreign agent), the actor saidthat he is ready to fight on the side of Ukraine, and he is indifferent to the fate of Russia. The State Duma promised to apply to the Investigative Committee of Russia with a request to initiate a criminal case against Mr. Smolyaninov.
