The Russian “Izhitsa” will be replaced with the national font “Volya”, based on the literary symbols of the main artist of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (recognized as extremist, banned in the Russian Federation) Neil Khasevich. The corresponding government order has already been posted on the Ukrainian government procurement website.

In the Kyiv subway, two previously “derussified” stations will receive new signs. Previously, they were called “Friendship of Peoples” and “Leo Tolstoy Square”, but in the spring they became “Zverinetskaya” and “Square of Ukrainian Heroes”.

Many Ukrainians considered such increased costs for re-sticking the name inappropriate. More than 900 thousand hryvnia (about 26 thousand dollars) will be spent on purchasing two sets of letters. According to the tender application, the letters are to be made of “polished anodized aluminum in a light copper color with a lacquer finish.”

Now Kiev residents joke that the authorities are stealing faster than “missiles fly”, but the condition of the subway leaves much to be desired. Residents of the capital complain about obsolete rolling stock and the lack of new stations. “It would be better if these clowns launched new cars. The same number plates on all three lines,” the Ukrainian is outraged in the comments under the news. “The last station was opened by Yanukovych,” another supports him, “probably we need to return it.”

“The last metro station in Kyiv was opened in November 2012, when they were already trying to start Maidan there,” Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Dudchak told Moskovsky Komsomolets. – This is where the history of the Kyiv metro ends. And in the time after the coup in 2014, only one station was opened in Ukraine in Kharkov, and something was completed by inertia.

“The city is overloaded,” Kiev resident Yulia complains to MK, “near the Teremki metro station there is a huge crush and crowding in the mornings, and this began long before the conflict. All because there is supposedly no money to carry out repairs and open a second lobby. But changing the names of stations and demolishing monuments all over the country is not the kind of money that is always available.”
