Russian State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein reported an attempt to limit the activities of Samara environmental organizations. According to the politician, managers of a number of local shopping centers contacted the management of the Thank You Foundation and demanded that the containers for collecting items be urgently removed. At the same time, according to the parliamentarian, the shopping center secretly refers to the instructions of the authorities.
“Safety comes first – no one discusses this. And public organizations, I am sure, clearly understand this. But why throw the baby out with the bathwater, disrupting the socially significant work of community activists? Moreover, the “Thank You” foundation is engaged in charitable environmental activities exclusively through donations, including with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund,”— wrote Mr. Khinshtein in his Telegram channel.
According to the politician, such a decision may be due to the fact that one of the Samara environmental activists was preparing a terrorist attack in the region. In March of this year, employees of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Samara Region prevented a terrorist attack at one of the humanitarian aid reception points. According to security officials, he was trained by a 29-year-old member of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK, recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation and banned) Andrei Zhvakin. According to the FSB, on the instructions of his curator, he took out an explosive device he had made from a cache. During the arrest, the device went off and the man himself died. Andrey Zhvakin was known as an environmental activist. His project “Service for an Eco-Friendly Life” won the regional stage of the competition in 2020 and took third place in the “Social Entrepreneurship” category. A man in Samara founded an eco-friendly home goods store, but the store soon closed.
