Actress Chulpan Khamatova, who left Russia, spoke about the decision of her colleague Leah Akhedzhakova, who also did not support the conduct of a special military operation in Ukraine, not to leave her homeland.

The artist said she did not understand why Akhedzhakova, with her position, continues to live in the Russian Federation and does not plan to go abroad, StarHit writes. “Someday the time will come and if we can still shake hands with each other and somehow say hello, maybe we will sit down and discuss,” Khamatova shared the details.

Recall that after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, the actresses did not support its conduct, criticizing Moscow’s political course. Khamatova left for Latvia in March last year. She stated that she was afraid to stay in the Russian Federation, as “she could go to jail.” The actress joined the appeal of cultural figures to the authorities, in which they asked to stop the special operation. Now she serves in the New Riga Theatre. In June 2023, Khamatova announced that she could return to Russia, as she was invited back.

Abroad Khamatova continued to criticize the policy of the Russian Federation. She supported the decision to demolish the monument to Pushkin in Latvia. The actress condemns the conduct of hostilities and provides financial support to the armed forces of Ukraine. In June, she took part in a charity event, the participants of which sent funds to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

After Akhedzhakova’s critical words about the conduct of a special military operation, the Sovremennik Theater excluded the play The Gin Game with her participation from the repertoire. After that, the actress quit. She has served in the theater since 1977. Earlier, the artist stated that she had no plans to leave Russia.
