Kaluga region celebrates the 80th anniversary of liberation from German invaders

In the Kaluga region, the famous “Nameless Height” became the center of celebrations on the 80th anniversary of liberation from the German invaders. Several thousand people gathered on the field at the memorial to pay tribute to the liberators. People carried flowers to the foot of the memorial.

“Today is a memorable date for every resident of the Kaluga region. 80 years ago our land was liberated from the Nazi invaders. And today we remember those who fought on our land. Eternal glory to the heroes and eternal memory to the dead,” said the governor of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha.

One of the central events of the event was the opening of a memorial stone dedicated to the battle at Nameless Height in 1943.

For the participants of the celebrations, demonstration performances by Airborne Forces soldiers, numbers of the Central Concert Exemplary Orchestra of the Navy named after N.A. were prepared here. Rimsky-Korsakov. A Belarusian delegation led by the Ambassador of the Republic to the Russian Federation Dmitry Krutoy came to the Kaluga region to participate in the celebrations. Representatives of a friendly country brought to the “Nameless Height” a mobile exhibition of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. Here one could see military, standard, medical equipment, traffic controllers, self-propelled and printing machines.

The heroic history of the Nameless Height is directly related to the liberation of the Kaluga region from the Nazis. On the night of September 14, a group of 18 fighters received the task of capturing height 224.1 near the village of Rubezhenka. This place had convenient access to the Desna. The group was able to break through and capture the heights. The fascist command immediately deployed about 300 people from several infantry units against 18 Red Army soldiers. All night the soldiers fought off the enemy. By morning, only two remained from the group. The heroes are buried here, at the “Nameless Height”. It was on the basis of these real events that occurred on Kaluga soil that one of the most heartfelt songs about the Great Patriotic War appeared – “At the Nameless Height.” In 2013, a regional law was adopted, which established the tradition of celebrating the Liberation Day of the region at Nameless Height.

In general, military operations in the Kaluga region took place from October 2, 1941 to September 17, 1943. The fighting lasted 715 days.
