Former special correspondent for Kommersant and Vedomosti Ivan Safronov, serving a 22-year prison sentence for treason, was returned to a maximum security colony near Krasnoyarsk, where he served his sentence for the last six months. Lawyer Dmitry Katchev told RIA Novosti about this.

According to the lawyer, at the Krasnoyarsk Regional Tuberculosis Hospital, Ivan Safronov’s blood was taken, an ECG and fluorography were performed. The journalist was kept in a solitary room in the reception department. On September 26, he was transferred back to IK-7 in the village of Areiskoye, Emelyanovsky district, Krasnoyarsk Territory. “It is expected that the journalist will remain in this colony for some time,” Mr. Katchev said.

On September 12, Ivan Safronov disappeared from the colony. During transfer, prisoners cannot be contacted by lawyers or relatives. They are not entitled to transfers and correspondence. Later it became known that he was transferred to the tuberculosis hospital in Krasnoyarsk. How reported Kommersant, Ivan Safronov was placed in a tuberculosis hospital before being sent to IK-15, located in Norilsk, due to the “repurposing” of a number of colonies in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

In February 2023, Ivan Safronov, sentenced to 22 years on charges of treason, was transferred to the maximum security colony IK-7 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In August he was transferred to strict conditions of detention for a period of one year. The reason for this in the FSIN was called a violation of the regime: Ivan Safronov was twice caught smoking in the wrong place, and once he walked in “flip-flops” along the corridor, where it is impossible to move in such shoes.
