The Federal Customs Service intends to prohibit its dog handlers from selling rejected dogs

The Federal Customs Service of Russia plans to change the rules for handling service dogs. Developed by the department project The corresponding order of the Ministry of Finance has been submitted for public discussion on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.

The main changes concern the daily routine of service dogs and their training. The duration of the four-legged working day is planned to remain the same – no more than 12 hours, but it was decided to change the rules for rest during the day. If today four-legged dogs are given short breaks with a total duration of 6 hours, without indicating when these breaks should be taken, then according to the new rules, dogs will need to be given 15 minutes of rest every 45 minutes, plus they will need to be walked for 10 minutes every two hours .

It is planned to make the training of service dogs more diverse. Today they are supposed to be trained at special training grounds, and the updated rules require that training in urban conditions, including in places unfamiliar to the animal, be included in the curriculum.

In addition, the rules for culling four-legged customs officers have changed. Now, before culling a dog, they look for a replacement for it a month before sending it “to retirement,” and the new rules require this to be done 3 months before retirement, that is, the internship period is increased. All this time, the dog handler will work with two dogs simultaneously. It is also planned to change the rules for the treatment of discarded dogs: if, according to the current rules, they are transferred to individuals and legal entities on a compensated or gratuitous basis, then in the future it will be possible to give dogs that have served their term into good hands exclusively free of charge.
