Scammers profit from the “Boy’s Word”, masquerading as online cinemas
Fraudsters create fake websites where you can supposedly watch the acclaimed TV series “The Boy’s Word.” Through such schemes, hackers try to obtain users’ personal data. The site reports this in detail. KP.RU.
According to the cybersecurity company Bi.Zone, from November 1 to December 20, 400 resources were created through which scammers intended to obtain personal data of Russians.
The attackers’ scheme is as follows: first, the user is offered to watch all episodes of “The Boy’s Words” for free, and after a couple of moments, a window appears on the screen offering to pay for a daily subscription for a nominal fee. After this, the user is redirected to a third-party resource.
If the viewer pays for viewing via a link, then, unbeknownst to him, the scammers sign up for a weekly subscription worth 340 rubles, which automatically renews after the expiration date.
At the same time, the user still does not have access to the series after payment, despite the payment.
“We also see phishing and scam resources that mimic the sensational series, our solutions block them…” said Olga Svistunova, senior content analyst at Kaspersky Lab.
According to her, scammers often use fake websites masquerading as online cinemas and other platforms for watching video content.
