Putin signed a law on the right to serve upon conscription in the FSB Border Service

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed lawallowing for compulsory military service in the Border Service of the FSB.

The law provides for the right to serve upon conscription in the FSB of the Russian Federation. The exceptions are citizens recognized as foreign agents, persons who have foreign citizenship or a residence permit in another state, holders of a current or past criminal record, including expunged or expunged, as well as persons who have used narcotic or psychotropic substances without a doctor’s prescription . In addition, persons under administrative supervision will not be held liable for failure to comply with it in connection with conscription.

The bill allowing military service in the FSB was introduced to the State Duma in September by the head of the Duma Security Committee Vasily Piskarev and the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein. The document will allow the department to independently recruit volunteers and create formations from them following the example of the Ministry of Defense. On December 7, the bill was adopted by the State Duma, and on December 22, it was approved by the Federation Council.

Last October, conscript soldiers were allowed to serve in the FSB agencies under contract. The contract can be concluded by conscripts who received secondary vocational education before conscription, as well as by men who are not in the reserves and who have received secondary vocational education. Military personnel who have signed a contract with the FSB can take part in a military operation in Ukraine.
