ISU awarded Russian figure skaters bronze instead of gold at the Beijing Games

The International Skating Union (ISU) awarded the Russian team third place instead of first in the team figure skating tournament at the Beijing Olympics in 2022. This solution (.pdf) accepted after deducting the result of the disqualified Kamila Valieva.
“All of Kamila Valieva’s individual results, short program and free skate scores have been cancelled, which has led to a review of the team competition results,” the ISU said in a statement.
After deducting points, the Russian team received 54 points in the team figure skating competition at the Winter Olympics in Beijing (74 before the cancellation). The national team dropped to third place in the ranking, behind the USA (65 points) and Japan (63 points). European champion 2022 after revision of results became figure skater Anna Shcherbakova.
A decision by the IOC on the revision of the results is also expected. US NOC previously reported, that the IOC had already informed him about awarding gold medals to American skaters. The organization has not officially confirmed this.
The ISU decision says that the union welcomes the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify Kamila Valieva. The organization maintains its position that anti-doping and the protection of clean athletes “remain the highest priorities.”
CAS published the decision to disqualify Kamila Valieva for four years on January 29. The period of suspension from competitions starts from December 25, 2021, when the skater passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine. The court also ruled that the athlete will be stripped of all competition results and awards she received after passing the positive test.
Kamila Valieva does not admit guilt. Her defense claims that trimetazidine was used by the athlete’s grandfather after heart surgery. Valieva herself believes that the drug entered her body due to the fact that she drank from the same mug as her grandfather. The Russian Olympic Committee decided to disqualify the figure skater named declaration of war on Russian sports.
