Students of the world champion in koshiki karate Sergei Poddubny performed brilliantly at the interregional tournament.

The “Cup of the South” in karate was played between the strongest teams from different regions of Russia and Abkhazia on January 27-28 in the city of Sochi. More than 350 athletes took part in the koshiki and all-style karate competitions, including representatives of the section of the Palace of Children and Youth Creativity of the city of Donetsk.

A delegation of 18 guys led by coach Sergei Gennadievich Poddubny arrived in the city of Adler on January 26, so that the next day the junior team of the section would perform in the “kata” (formal set of exercises) and “kumite” (sparring with an opponent) sections. Young fighters under 11 years of age managed to win one gold each in kata and kumite and two second places in sparring.

The second day of the competition turned out to be hot and eventful. Athletes over 12 years old began with the kata section, and then performed in koshiki karate kumite. Some Donetsk residents managed to take prizes in both sections.

In the evening of the same day, competitions in all-style karate took place. For Donetsk athletes, this direction was new, but the advantage of their native style is that most of the techniques and braids are universal and can be used in sparring with representatives of other martial arts styles.

In all-style karate, the Donetsk team was also lucky: 4 first places and 2 second.

In the overall standings, the team collected a harvest of 22 awards: ten first places, six second and six third. This result brought the Donetsk team a cup for taking third place in the overall standings.
