ATOR said that they began to confiscate Russian passports at the border due to typos
The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported two cases of confiscation of foreign passports of Russians due to errors in documents. As executive director of ATOR Maya Lomidze said, one of the cases is associated with a typo in the name, and the second with a missing letter in the name of the city. She noted that ATOR is monitoring the situation, since this has not happened before.
ATOR Vice-President Artur Muradyan explained that previously some mistakes were made in international passports, but now due to typos, documents may be invalidated. He noted that the transcription of the first and last name in Latin may contain “some liberties,” however, the new rules for traveling abroad have tightened the requirements for documents. Since December 11, 2020, the rules for crossing the border in Russia have changed, including the list of reasons for declaring a foreign passport invalid.
