Infectionist Pozdnyakov said that Russia is not threatened by a measles epidemic
Doctor-infectionist, candidate of medical sciences, chief physician of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of INVITRO-Siberia LLC Andrey Pozdnyakov told “Gazete.Ru”that there will be no measles epidemic in Russia.
According to the expert, measles is the most contagious of all infections, and for sensitive people, only fleeting contact is enough to get sick. Pozdnyakov argues that unvaccinated people should be worried. At the same time, he clarified that it is possible to get vaccinated even during an outbreak of infection, especially since the immune response to measles is developed quite quickly.
In addition, the doctor pointed out that, according to clinical guidelines, a person who has been in contact with a measles patient and for various reasons does not have an immune response is given a dose of the vaccine in the first three days, which helps prevent a severe form of the disease. Those who have been vaccinated twice, according to Pozdnyakov, do not need to do anything. The specialist clarified that if a person has been vaccinated for a long time or doubts the effectiveness of the vaccine, you can take an antibody test, and if their level is high, then this is enough.
Pozdnyakov stressed that measles is now “not blazing”, and there will be no “classic” epidemic due to the fact that there is a high immune layer. However, the doctor added that there are and will be local outbreaks until the percentage of vaccinated people reaches 98-99%.
