In Russia, the second region has introduced punishment for inducing abortions – Kommersant

The Legislative Assembly of the Tver Region adopted the law “On the prohibition of inducement to abortion,” reported on website regional parliament. Before this, such a punishment was introduced in Mordovia.
The initiative was proposed by Governor Igor Rudenya. In his opinion, the law will help increase the birth rate and counteract “information threats to the family, fatherhood, motherhood and childhood.”
For “inducing” an abortion, individuals will be fined 5 thousand rubles, officials – up to 50 thousand rubles, legal entities – up to 200 thousand rubles. Inducement, as stated in the document, is forcing a pregnant woman to have an abortion through persuasion, offers, bribery, deception, and other demands.
The first federal subject to introduce liability for inducing abortion was Mordovia. For individuals, fines range from 5 to 10 thousand rubles, for legal entities – from 100 thousand to 200 thousand rubles. They want to pass a similar law in the Tambov region and Tatarstan.
At the end of October, the State Duma discussed proposals to tighten the practice of abortion: parliamentarians proposed to keep the written consent of a man for an abortion in a registered marriage, and in the case of pregnancy of a minor girl, the consent of a parent or guardian. In addition, one of the proposals was to limit the period for abortion from 12 to 8 weeks of pregnancy.
By data Ministry of Health, over ten years the number of abortions has more than halved. By data Federal Compulsory Health Insurance Fund, most abortions under compulsory medical insurance are performed in the Sverdlovsk region, Moscow, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Moscow region and Bashkiria.
