An increase in discharges from the Irkutsk HPP to 3 thousand cubic meters per second led to the flooding of 21 summer cottages and 6 summer cottages in the Elizovskoye gardening association, located on the islands on the Angara River in Irkutsk. According to the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the decision to increase discharges was made by the Yenisei Basin Water Administration due to the high inflow into Lake Baikal.
“People stay in flooded houses seasonally, at present no one lives there. The rest of the citizens were notified of the rise in the water level, they were offered evacuation, ”the department added.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also notes that the situation in the downstream of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station “is under control.”
