“I will challenge myself again”: residents of the region about the extreme race “Heroes of the North”

On Sunday, August 20, the competition “Heroes of the North – Polar Frontier” took place in the capital of the region. More than 100 teams of six people each, no less number of spectators, drive and unlimited endurance – how it was, read in the material “MK in Murmansk”.

The fourth race “Heroes of the North” was held in the park “Patriot”. According to local residents, over the past few years it has changed and noticeably prettier due to modernization.

Participants, both military and just enthusiastic civilians, were waiting for a 5.6 km long track and 22 obstacles, among them a hand walk with a barrier, a log crossing, Everest, several ditches and a “well”.

At some points, our correspondent notes, it was possible to help the girls – for example, when dragging bags or climbing a rope.

“Our service is integral to sports, so this is nothing new for us. Next year I will challenge myself again,” said one of the soldiers.

A member of the Center team noted that after a few days of rest they would start preparing again, but already for the winter race.

The most memorable obstacles for the northerners were the pool and the elements in front of the finish line – tires that you have to climb through. The participants admitted that at first they did not take them seriously, and then they learned by experience how difficult it was.

“We are amateurs, but we are athletes, overcoming difficulties is in our nature. We have a craving to feel our limit. This is interesting and helps not only in physical culture, but also in life,” said 52-year-old participant, chemical engineer Natalia Stepanova.

She is involved in athletics and cross-country running. I participated in the “Heroes of the North” for the first time: I was inspired by friends and teammates.

Also, an exhibition of military equipment and an interactive entertainment zone were prepared for guests and participants, which the children especially liked.
