Record-breaking large snowdrifts in the capital will begin to melt on Thursday, December 22, when the air temperature approaches zero degrees. On December 24, the temperature will rise to +4°C. This was told by the head of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand.
“By the evening, especially by midnight, that is, already on Thursday, the temperature will approach zero due to the movement of warm air masses. This will lead to the fact that on Thursday the temperature background will rise: at night and during the day the temperature will be around zero – from -3°C to +3°C,” Mr. Vilfand said.
From December 22, precipitation will fall in the form of sleet and rain. At the same time, the snow will not melt in two or three days, he added.
Yesterday, December 18, 100 flights were canceled at three Moscow airports due to snowfall. The height of the snowdrifts reached a record high – from 33 to 38 cm.
