How we live – according to the results of the census

Rosstat has published the final results of the 2021 population census. The last, eleventh volume is “Population by types of residential premises occupied, provision with various types of improvement.”

In my opinion, the eleventh volume is not the “last”, not the “final”, but the final one. The first volume – “Number and distribution of the population” – introductory, general. And the eleventh volume shows the level of everyday life of the population. How else did the Soviet government proclaim: “Everything is in the name of man! All for the good of man!” In this particular case, a particular good is improvement, a comfortable life.

Let’s start with the general first volume. The population of the Russian Federation is 147,182,123 people. There are 10 million more women than men.

Moskovskaya Pravda and other mass media have repeatedly written that the conduct of the census and its results raise at least questions. So, according to the same Rosstat, the population of the Russian Federation as of January 1, 2022 was 145,478,097 people. So, in a month and a half (from November 14, 2021 – the date of completion of the census), there were one and a half million fewer Russians?

But in this case, we will proceed only from the results census.

There is also one big question-note to the materials of the eleventh volume, but about it at the end.

So, 147,182,123 people live in 64,074,584 households. It turns out that the conditional average family consists of 2.3 people.

99.5 million people live in detached apartments. In individual houses – 42 million. In communal apartments – 1.362 million. In hostels – 2, 855 million. We have 11,285 homeless people.

In “other residential premises” – 127,837 citizens. What is “other living quarters”?

And another unanswered question: what are “institutional institutions”? 1,022,727 Russians live in them.

This is the composition of the population “according to the types of residential premises occupied.”

Now let’s consider “the provision of various types of amenities.”

Let’s repeat – we have 64,074,584 households. Of these, 16,409,439 individual houses, 46,924,006 individual apartments and 741,139 communal apartments.

12,863,706 households have electric stoves.

Network gas – 31 212 863.

Gas in cylinders -3 859 130.

Centralized heating – 29,087,063 (less than half).

Individual heating installations, boilers – 12 103 414.

Stove heating – 5,003,159 households.

Centralized cold water supply system – in 38,911,123 houses and apartments.

It is more or less clear that there is no cold water in almost 12 million private houses. But after all, it is not in 16 million individual apartments and in 220 thousand communal apartments. Like this?

24,425,633 households have hot centralized water supply. That is, 63% of Russians live without a centralized supply of hot water. True, 14.6 million families use individual heaters.

There are 38,194,136 households with flush toilets located in the dwelling.

Toilets outside the home – in 6,704,755 apartments and households. If we take an average family of 2.3 people, then 15.5 million Russians send their natural needs to “birdhouses” in the yards, in the cold.

A puzzling survey result: 117,597 households have no toilets at all. That is, more than 270,000 of our citizens, as they used to say in the villages, go out of need on their backs. And now they probably say so.

Finally, the same general question-note to the eleventh volume.

Recall: there are more than 64 million households in Russia. But only 51 million 470 thousand owners answered the question about “provision with various types of amenities”.

That is, we do not know exactly what living conditions are in more than 29 million Russians living in almost 13 million individual houses and apartments.
