Press service of hockey CSKA reported on the termination of the contract with goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov. The club’s statement states that CSKA still retains the sports rights to the player in Russia. In 2023, Fedotov found himself at the center of a scandal surrounding the signing of a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

“The club thanks Ivan Fedotov and wishes him success in his future career,” the club said in a statement.

In 2022, Ivan Fedotov won the Gagarin Cup with CSKA, after which he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. In the summer of the same year, he was detained at the military registration and enlistment office and sent to a military unit for military service. After completing his service, the player expressed his desire to continue playing for CSKA. On July 8, 2023, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) registered a new contract with CSKA. On August 14, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) stated that the hockey player had no right to sign a contract with the Russian club while he was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Due to the violation, Ivan Fedotov was disqualified until the end of 2023 by decision of the IIHF. CSKA did not agree with the IIHF’s decision, accusing the federation of protecting the interests of the NHL. The goalkeeper continued to play for CSKA. Last season, the hockey player played 49 matches for the club and stopped 1,251 shots on goal (91.4% of all shots).
