Historians have identified birds from ancient Egyptian frescoes

Scholars from Oxford and Cambridge Universities identified birds depicted on a fresco from the royal palace in the Egyptian city of Amarna. The drawing is 3300 years old. Historians claim that these are gray doves that still live in Egypt.
At the time of the creation of the fresco, the country was ruled by Pharaoh Akhenaten, the father of King Tutankhamun. He built a new capital called Akhetaten (Amarna) 300 km from Cairo. The fresco adorned the walls of the northern palace, found by archaeologists in 1923-1925.
The researchers made a copy of the image as it was extremely fragile. The original could not be saved, it no longer exists. The scientists compared the image with ornithological studies in order to identify the birds. They detailed the fresco as much as possible and there were no problems with identifying species.
Most of the painted birds are rock doves, there are images of the motley kingfisher, white wagtail and red-backed shrike.
