Honey Spas is celebrated annually on August 14, Apple Spas on August 19, and Nut Spas on August 29. Folk traditions are intricately intertwined with Christian ones, but most believers believe that these days it is necessary to bring honey, apples and nuts to the temple and consecrate them. What is the essence of this tradition, Hieromonk Makarii Markish explained at the round table in MK.

“August is the time of fruits. In the Mediterranean countries, where Christianity comes from, it is usually grapes, we have other traditional fruits. It is accepted that the first fruits, as well as bread and wine made at home, are brought as a gift to the church. Today we don’t bake our own bread and we don’t make our own wine, but we have to bring something to the church. These donations then go to the poor. It is clear that the church needs honey and apples in order to distribute them to those who need it. This is the essence of the blessing of fruits – we thank the Lord for these products. It started a long time ago, back in the first century, the offerings themselves just change. After all, everyone can bring what he has. If we are talking about peasants, then these are the fruits that he grew. A modern urban dweller buys food, the same apples, nuts and honey, and only then takes them to church. Do the churches need them? They won’t be redundant. Although there is an open question here: isn’t it more logical to bring money to the church right away? Yes, the store owner will be left without revenue, but is this a problem? He will get his way.”
