The most expensive lot of the first auction in Tokyo in 2024 was bluefin tuna weighing 238 kilograms. It was purchased for 114.2 million yen, or $788 thousand. In terms of Russian currency, this is more than 70 million rubles. The auction organizers informed about this.
According to them, the giant fish was caught in the northern Aomori Prefecture. In terms of value, it took fourth place during the entire auction in Tokyo. At the same time, for the first time in the last four years, bluefin tuna was valued at more than one hundred million yen.
There is an opinion among restaurateurs that purchasing the main lot contributes to successful business. In addition, it leads to an influx of customers who are ready to stand in line to try the most expensive fish.
The huge tuna will be prepared and served at Onodera sushi restaurant in Tokyo’s prestigious Ginza district. This establishment has been awarded a Michelin star. The fish buyers included seafood wholesaler Yamayuki and sushi restaurant operator Onodera.
