G20 summit guests decided to protect from monkeys

The Department of Forestry of India’s capital, Delhi, released an interesting message today: the authorities of the capital district during the G20 (Big Twenty) summit intend to scare away macaques, which cause a lot of trouble to the authorities of the city and guests of India, with cardboard images of langurs, a genus of monkeys revered in India. And specially trained specialists will publish “cries of langurs”. The fact is that macaques are afraid of these relatives.
As you know, macaques, which settle in large groups near popular tourist attractions, beg and steal food from tourists, and sometimes even show aggression towards adults and children. In addition, these animals seriously interfere with the movement of urban transport. Therefore, the city authorities have been looking for ways to solve the problem for many years.
The authorities of the city are afraid that macaques can create inconvenience during this large-scale international event, therefore, for the period of its holding, cardboard figures of langurs will be placed in different parts of the cities – primarily along the road leading from the airport to the summit venue and passing along the forest “Southern ridge.” In addition, 40 trained specialists will imitate langur-like sounds.
New Delhi Deputy Chief of Staff Satish Upadhyay said the measures are “experimental” and the authorities “should assess how this will affect the number of macaques in these areas.” The authorities are proudly hoping that, thanks to these measures, macaques will remain in forest areas and not interfere with the movement of vehicles of the summit delegates.
Whether macaques will believe the cardboard figures of langurs is a big question. Note that langurs in India live at every temple, they are considered temple monkeys.
The G-20 Summit is the eighteenth meeting of the heads of state of the Group of Twenty (G20), due to be held in India in New Delhi in September 2023.
