During a court hearing in the Moscow Regional Court, where an off-site session of the Lyubertsy Court of the Moscow Region is being held, the jury found the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, guilty of all three episodes of organizing the murders of his business competitors: Evgeny Zori, Oleg Bulatov and Alexander Smolsky.
In addition to Furgal, the verdict was also handed down to Andrei Karepov, Marat Kadyrov and Andrei Paley. As a result, the jury noted that Furgal and the other defendants did not deserve leniency in any of the episodes.
When asked whether Furgal was guilty of attempted murder of a businessman, the jury answered in the affirmative.
According to the version of the investigation, Smolsky was a rival of Furgal in business and there were disagreements between them, which served as a pretext for the assassination attempt, which Marat Kadyrov was instructed to carry out.
Sergei Furgal has been in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center since the summer of 2020. He still does not admit his guilt.
