Several changes to the traffic rules regarding passing the exam and obtaining a driver’s license will come into force on April 1. In particular, the number of permissible penalty points in the practical exam will be increased from four to seven, and a ban on taking the exam for people deprived of a driver’s license will also begin to apply.
From April 1, the ban on taking the exam will also affect:
- persons who did not appear at the military registration and enlistment office when summoned;
- those who did not fulfill the conditions for the return of rights after the end of their deprivation;
- people deprived of the right to engage in activities directly related to driving a vehicle;
- those caught for driving while intoxicated or who refused to undergo a medical examination (for them, the restriction is introduced for a year from the date of the decision on the administrative offense).
In addition, according to the new rules, the period for retaking the exam will be increased after three failed attempts. Now you can retake the exam no earlier than in one month and no later than in three; according to the new rules, the fourth retake will be scheduled within six to nine months.
Changes in traffic rules also affected foreign driver’s licenses. In particular, from April 1, drivers with foreign licenses will have to obtain Russian licenses. These restrictions will also affect citizens of the Russian Federation who entered the country with foreign rights for permanent residence. Foreigners will need to obtain a Russian license within a year after receiving a residence permit, Russians – within a year from the date of entry into Russia. Continuing to drive with such a license after the end of the specified period will be regarded by traffic police inspectors as driving without a license.
