On October 17, former USSR Minister of Culture Vasily Zakharov died. He was 89 years old. Mikhail Lavrov, grandson of Politburo member of the CPSU Central Committee Vadim Medvedev, said “RIA News”that the funeral will take place on October 21.
In 1973, Vasily Zakharov began working at the Leningrad Regional Committee of the CPSU, where he headed the propaganda and agitation department. From 1986 to 1989 he headed the USSR Ministry of Culture, then was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR. In the 1990s, Mr. Zakharov was appointed counselor-envoy of the Russian Embassy in Yugoslavia. In 1994 he retired.
