Foreign Ministry: immigrants from new regions must decide on citizenship within a month

Natives of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) annexed to Russia, as well as Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, who are abroad, must decide on citizenship within a month. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Yevgeny Ivanov. According to him, the issuance of Russian passports to citizens of new regions will be carried out at an accelerated pace.

“Just like it was in Crimea. Within a month, they must decide, make a choice, ”Mr. Ivanov told RIA Novosti. He also noted that at the moment, many people from new regions of Russia already have Russian passports.

September 30 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed agreements on the accession to Russia of the DPR, LPR, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. October 3 State Duma ratified agreements on the entry of regions into Russia. The decision was made following the results of referendums held in these regions.
