From the evening of October 4, Jews will celebrate Yom Kippur

On the 10th day of the month of Tirshey, followers of Judaism celebrate Yom Kippur. The name of this holiday can be translated as “Day of Atonement”. For Jews, it is the most important of all religious holidays. In 2022, according to the Gregorian calendar, it falls between the evening of October 4th and the evening of October 5th.
The Jews believe that on the 10th of Tishrei everyone is given a verdict depending on how they spent the year. The holiday is preceded by ten days of repentance, beginning with the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanah.
On Yom Kippur, religious Jews attend the synagogue, pray and abstain from food for nearly 25 hours. Fasting usually begins half an hour before sunset on the eve of the holiday and ends the next evening after the appearance of the third star in the sky. Also on this day, work, driving a car and using mobile phones are prohibited.
In Israel, many Yom Kippur traditions are followed, including by secular Jews. On the roads of the country you can see mainly bicycles, as well as ambulances, police and fire departments.
Halakha, or Jewish law, implies that the preservation of human life overrides almost any other religious motive. This largely extends to Yom Kippur bans as well. On this day, doctors and firefighters continue to work, and fasting, according to one interpretation, is required only from those whose lives are not threatened by a long refusal to eat.
The Jewish calendar is lunisolar, so that each calendar date always falls not only on the same season of the year, but also on the same phase of the moon. Thus, depending on the year, holidays fall on different dates of the Gregorian calendar.
