In 2022–2023, Roskomnadzor assigned 1.17 billion rubles to foreign agents. fines for the lack of markings, said the head of the department of control and supervision in the field of electronic communications of the department, Evgeny Zaitsev. Speaking at the forum “Everything for Victory!” in Tula, Evgeny Zaitsev said that the dissemination of extremist content is now one of the factors destabilizing the socio-political situation. In total, over the past two years, at the request of Roskomnadzor, over 792 thousand materials containing extremist content were blocked or deleted.

Mr. Zaitsev noted that to counter the spread of materials of an extremist and terrorist nature, Roskomnadzor carried out 314 preventive measures with media editors, broadcasting organizations and owners of regional Internet resources.

According to Russian law, people and organizations recognized by the Ministry of Justice as foreign agents are required to preface all their publications with a special marking. For its absence, fines from 30 thousand to 50 thousand rubles are provided for individuals, and from 300 thousand to 500 thousand for legal entities. The third violation within a year may become the basis for a criminal case with a maximum penalty of up to two years in prison.
