Folk omens March 25: meet spring

March 25 in the folk calendar is Feofanov’s day. In the old days, it was customary to go outside in the morning to meet spring, which on this day finally drives away winter.

It was also customary to feed the birds – as a token of gratitude for the fact that they brought warmth with them. Moreover, it was believed that what kind of seeds you feed pichug – the harvest of that crop this year will be rich.

In regions where swallows nest, there was such a sign: if a pebble is found in the swallow’s nest, it will protect from various evils. Only the pebble had to be taken out very carefully so as not to spoil or ruin the nest.

Particular attention was paid to the horses that day. They cleaned the stalls and stalls, took care of the animals, walked with them, gave them spring water, “charged” with silver. It was believed that this would protect the horses from disease and the evil eye.

Also, according to popular beliefs, for unmarried girls to break a birch branch today – to be left alone for a long time; if you swear and quarrel, misfortunes will haunt you all year; if you take something for free, as a gift or on credit, you can take over the damage along with the thing.

Folk signs on March 25 are as follows:

– if the snow on the anthill melts from the south side – the summer will be short and cold;

– if animals from the forest come out to people – to a strong flood;

– if the day is warm and sunny – to a rainy summer;

– if fog creeps on the ground – to a snowfall.
